Chili Garlic Green Bean and Chicken Stir Fry

June 30, 2016  |  This week the wax and pole beans are coming in strongly. I remember that my son actually likes chili stir-fried beans at a local Chinese restaurant so I thought I’d try an adaptation to help deplete the big bowl of green beans that is on my counter. He loved them so much that he asked if I could cook them again tomorrow. Success! This one is getting written down. — Florencia

Chicken or the Deviled Egg?

June 26, 2016  |  It’s Sunday afternoon and I am too lazy to go to the market today. However I have just agreed to host my parents here for dinner. They want to grill a tenderloin they have but I am left in charge of the rest of the menu. What can I cobble together? I am still sitting on a mountain of zucchinis, a few cucumbers, and two dozen eggs from the chicken coop. So here’s what I was able to swing: Chicken or the Deviled Egg? appetizer, fresh cucumber salad, grilled zucchini with ...

Zucchini Fettuccini and Hand Pulled Chicken with Fresh Tomato Basil Sauce

June 25, 2016  |  Today I came home from being out of town for two weeks and the zucchinis were gargantuan. I also stopped by a farm stand on my way and bought some early season tomatoes. It’s a little early for tomatoes in Napa and they are not quite interesting enough to eat fresh in a salad, so I thought I’d incorporate them into a sauce instead. Here is the last minute dinner I whipped up after a long road trip and arriving home to an empty fridge. — Florencia

Quick Garden Chicken Stir Fry

June 15, 2016  |  Tonight Nico’s friend is coming over with her parents. The two kids are re-enacting an episode of Chopped Junior. They will be making a dessert each so we have large bowls of strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, and nuts prepared for their mystery basket. But I still need to feed them dinner before we start the competition. Quick garden stir fry is my time saving solution and of course cucumber salad since I still have so many of them ripe and needing to be picked. -- ...

Quick Chicken Fried Rice

May 28, 2016  |  A dear friend of mine is in town tonight and we are looking forward to catching up and gossiping like two girls who have not seen each other in ages. But before I can do that I need to whip together some dinner. I have finally cleared out the rest of the winter green garden and have a pile of mustard greens, scallions, and Gai Choy to cook with. One of my favorite things to do with fresh greens is fried rice so here goes — a night of greens and gossip. — Florencia

GoodHeart Celebrates 20 years in Business

We’re excited to be celebrating 20 years in business!  In 1996 mother/daughter team, Amalia and Florencia Palmaz started a boutique food distribution company in San Antonio, Texas, featuring locally-sourced meat and fowl.  It was named GoodHeart Brand Specialty Foods, thinking of physical health.  The early days of GoodHeart were all about promoting a balanced low-fat diet.  “Back then,” says Florencia, “we would advertise that buying our meats, helped consumers to have a ‘GoodH...
